Rebecca Martin is a graduate student in Northwestern’s Interdepartmental Biological Sciences (IBiS) program. She received her BA in biology and chemistry from New College of Florida. Currently, she works in the laboratory of professor Jonathan Widom studying how fruit fly DNA fits into the cell by wrapping around certain proteins. Fruit flies serve as a valuable model for studying many aspects of human biology, including genetics. In her spare time she volunteers as a mentor for middle school students in the after-school program, Science Club. She enjoys crafts, trying new restaurants, and kittens.
